MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY FOOTBALL HONORS: Pre Season Defensive Player of the Year sets NCAA Division I-AA record - Sept 12, 2004
GREENSBORO, NC - South Carolina State Wide Receiver Tavarus Morgan was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced. Norfolk State Spartan Kevin Talley was named defensive player of the week, Morgan State Jason Little earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Hampton Pirate Gerell Golighty and Andrew Paterini picked up offensive lineman and special teams player of the week honors respectively.

Morgan (WR, 6-2, 210, Sr., Jackson, Ga.), a member of the 2003 All-MEAC first team, broke his own school record for receptions (10) with 11 and 119 yards including two for touchdowns against number three ranked Wofford.

Talley (LB, 6-0, 230, Sr., Newport News, Va.), the 2004 MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, set a NCAA I-AA single game record for tackles with 30 (12 solo) against Savannah State. He also recorded two sacks and a forced fumble in the game.

Little (DB, 6-2, 200, Fr., Pleasantville, N.J.) recorded his first two interceptions of his college career while also collecting two tackles in a close game versus Gardner-Webb.

Golightly (OG, 6-3, 300, Jr., Lancaster, Texas) collected four pancake blocks and did not give up any sacks as the Pirates racked up 305 total offensive yards including a 100-yard rushing game from running back Alonzo Coleman.

Paterini (PK, 6-0, 205, So., Gladstone, Mo.) connected on four field goals of 41, 40, 34 and 36 yards, setting a new school record. He also was a perfect five-of-five, totaling 17 points in the Hampton win over Howard.
