What the Election Is REALLY About
By Alan Caruba, THE NATIONAL ANXIETY CENTER
Soon Americans will go to the polls to elect their next president, and in doing so this year, they will be making the most important decision any electorate can make -- what to do about national sovereignty.

CORAL GABLES, Florida (CNN) -- The following is a transcript of the first section of the debate between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry held Thursday night at the University of Miami. The topic of the debate was foreign affairs and, and the moderator was Jim Lehrer of PBS.

The Debates
Susan Estrich, Robert Kingsley Professor of Law and Political Science at the University of Southern California Law Center
So now it comes down to the debates -- or more particularly, to the moments that will define the debates.
First Debate Will Determine Much
Paul Weyrich, Chairman and CEO, FREE CONGRESS FOUNDATION
The first of the presidential debates will be held on September 30th. The Pew Research Center reports that four in 10 Americans say they are sure to watch that first debate, which would give it a far greater audience than four years ago when the ever-underestimated George W. Bush was believed to have bested the well-known debater, Vice President Al Gore.
Was Al Franken Right?
by Vox Day, WORLD NET DAILY
I am no fan of Al Franken, who likes to play tough guy as long as he's dealing with people who are too civilized or surprised to fight back. I'm very much hoping he will run for the Senate seat in Minnesota, just so I can engage in the schadenfranken of watching a car crash of a campaign that would make John Kerry's ongoing debacle look competent.
Republicans Joining in Criticism of Iraq Policy
by David Sarasohn, NEWHOUSE NEWS SERVICE
People have claimed that Bush Iraq policy is mostly wishful thinking, but there's always been one thing very solid about it: keeping just how much trouble we're in quiet until after Nov. 2.

Can Kerry Execute? Why Governors Make Better Presidents Than Senators Do.
by BY Pete Du Pont, former governor of Delaware, now policy chairman of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis.
My senior senator, Joe Biden of Delaware, gave a hometown speech earlier this year about U.S. foreign policy in Iraq. It was a thoughtful presentation, but it included a criticism of the election of former governors to the presidency because they had no foreign-policy experience and thus were insensitive and less capable regarding foreign policy and international concerns. Senators who've served on the Foreign Relations Committee, he implied, would do much better.
William Safire: 10 ways Kerry Could Turn Tide
by William Safire, NEW YORK TIMES
I am John Kerry, behind in the polls with only six weeks to go.
I've already shaken up my staff again; Cahill, Shrum and the whole Kennedy crowd were fine for the late primaries, but their war-hero strategy was all wrong for the general election. Now I've got Sasso and the Clinton heavy-hitters calling the shots. What can we do to stop the erosion in the polls and turn this campaign around?
George F. Will: Like It or Not, Iran Likely to Join the Nuclear Club
by George F. Will, WASHINGTON POST
.... Iran is not a mere literary dystopia. It is perhaps the biggest problem on the horizon of the next U.S. president because it is moving toward development of nuclear weapons, concerning which the Bush administration has two factions. One favors regime change, the other favors negotiations. There is no plausible path to achieving the former and no reason to expect the latter to be productive.
The Islamic States of America?
by Daniel Pipes, FRONTPAGEMAGAZINE.COM
The hardest thing for Westerners to understand is not that a war with militant Islam is underway but that the nature of the enemy's ultimate goal. That goal is to apply the Islamic law (the Shari‘a) globally. In U.S. terms, it intends to replace the Constitution with the Qur'an.
Stolen History
by Peter Kirsanow, Member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
Former President Jimmy Carter's op-ed in Monday's Washington Post, entitled "Still Seeking a Fair Florida Vote," recycles many of the usual myths emanating from the 2000 election — but with some subtle twists.
Still Seeking a Fair Florida Vote
by Jimmy Carter, Former President of the United States of America, Chairman of the Carter Center, Atlanta
After the debacle in Florida four years ago, former president Gerald Ford and I were asked to lead a blue-ribbon commission to recommend changes in the American electoral process. After months of concerted effort by a dedicated and bipartisan group of experts, we presented unanimous recommendations to the president and Congress. The government responded with the Help America Vote Act of October 2002. Unfortunately, however, many of the act's key provisions have not been implemented because of inadequate funding or political disputes.
An Iran-Israeli War?
by Peter Brookes, Heritage Foundation Senior Fellow
Time after time, the 35-nation International Atomic Energy Agency has demanded that Iran stop enriching uranium. Yet Tehran keeps on thumbing its nose at the U.N. body, saying its uranium enrichment is just a peaceful effort to produce electricity.
